Description: This course equips learners in developing a personal understanding of the effects of stress, loss, trauma and grief on others, with emphasis on self-care and personal protection. Learners will be introduced to the Red Cross Look, Listen, Link, Live model – a resiliency-building approach to emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing that teaches learners how to support themselves and others to cope with the effects of various types of stress. The course uses primarily case-based learning and includes the latest evidence from the international community.
Duration: 13 – 15 hours * (Time dependent on the fluid nature of the course and experience of the attendees)
Course Content: Case-based learning and discussion will be tailored to the audience and include the following content:

- Case Studies
- Psychological First Aid
- Operational Principles
- Stress, Distress
- Loss and Grief
- Vulnerable Populations
- Supportive Communication
- Look, Listen, Link, Live
- Resiliency and Protective Factors
- Policies, Legislation
Completion: 100% attendance in both in-class days. *There is no evaluation component for the classroom-based course.

Certification: 3-year certification in Psychological First Aid
All participants will have access to an online Self-Care course. Log in information will be sent one week prior to the course.
This online course assists learners in developing a personal understanding of the effects of stress, loss, trauma and grief, with emphasis on self-care and personal protection. Learners will be introduced to the Red Cross Look, Listen, Link, Live model and will learn how to cope with the effects of various types of stress. Learners have a chance to start to create their own self-care plan.
Red Cross online courses are self-paced. Participants may leave the course at any time and can resume where they left off. The duration will vary depending on the individual learner and their prior knowledge of the subject matter. The self-care course will take between 45 and 90 minutes to complete.
